My condolences to the Polish people on the deaths of Mr Lech Kaczynski and the First Lady Mrs Maria Kaczynska. I believe the Polish community might be interested in this film - the Katyn massacre is included in the film.

"The Soviet Story"
on May 11th at 7:00 PM,
Mayfair Theatre (1074 Bank Street)

OTTAWA - The Free Thinking Film Society and Tribute to Liberty is proud to present the Ottawa premier of the documentary, "The Soviet Story", a film about the horrible crimes of the Soviet Union. Writer/Director Edvins Snore will also be in attendance to answer questions.

"The Soviet Story" was filmed over 2 years in Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Germany, France, UK and Belgium. Material for the documentary was collected by the author, Edvins Snore, for more than 10 years. As a result, "The Soviet Story" presents a truly unique insight into recent Soviet history, told by people, once Soviet citizens, who have first hand knowledge of it.

The film tells the story of the Soviet regime.
The Great Famine in Ukraine (1932/33)
The Katyn massacre (1940)
The SS-KGB partnership [in the late 1930s the KGB was called NKVD]
Soviet mass deportations
Medical experiments in the GULAG.

These are just a few of the subjects covered in the film.

"The Soviet Story" also discusses the impact of the Soviet legacy on modern day Europe. Listen to experts and European MPs discussing the implications of a selective attitude towards mass murder; and meet a woman describing the burial of her new born son in a GULAG concentration camp. The Soviet Story is a story of pain, injustice and "realpolitik".

"Soviet Story is the most powerful antidote yet to the sanitisation of the past. The film is gripping, audacious and uncompromising." The Economist".

The Free Thinking Film Society was established in 2007 in Ottawa to provide an outlet for filmmakers and moviegoers alike who are looking for an alternative to the 'alternative'. In other words, we celebrate the efforts of risk-taking documentarians whose work espouses the values of limited, democratic government, free market economies, equality of opportunity rather than equality of result, and the dignity of the individual, all underscored by a healthy and patriotic respect for Western culture and traditions. To date, The Free Thinking Film Society has shown 11 films and just recently hosted an evening on Canada's post-2011 strategy in Afghanistan.

Tribute to Liberty is a Canadian organization intended to serve lovers of freedom across Canada and around the world. Tribute to Liberty's mission is to establish a memorial to the victims of totalitarian communism in Canada's National Capital Region, and to educate the public about communism's crimes.
